The glass towers and monumental stadiums stand proud but the world’s attention has
moved on. Ten years after the medals were awarded and podiums dismantled, this
contemplative project asks us to look again at the social changes that follow
regeneration. During the pandemic, Tony Mak documented the disquiet of empty
shopping centres and the emerging beauty of Stratford’s green spaces with the
detached eye of a newcomer.
Featuring an introduction that explores the history of preregeneration Stratford and
the reality of its present, this book portrays a complicated attempt to find the soul of
this new and still changing community.
