This commonly unpopular dictator accompanies the lives of Syrian people at each and every step. It is quite usual, in countries under a dictatorship, for portraits of the leader to hang in notable places. In Syria however, Assad's face can be found staring out from the most run-down and despairing places - as if Assad was proud of leading his country into such ruin. These photographs were captured before war broke out. It shall not be forgotten how life was back then and why the people eventually chose to rebel against it. Perhaps these images might, in some way, help us to understand that change is wanted in Syria and that international intervention is desperately needed in this tragic conflict.
