Epic Gamers of Israel
by Dror Garti
“A free, really high quality photo-essay magazine.  Fabulous!” Stephen Fry. British actor, writer and film & documentary maker
Professional computer gaming has started to gain traction in Israel in recent years. More and more youngsters turn to professional gaming, in addition to their day jobs, spending long nights and weekends participating in online gaming clubs and official gaming tournaments. Sometimes the gamers convene in someone’s apartment for a 72-hour-straight game session. Sometimes they play against each other but often the gamers team up to play as a group against another group which may be located on the other side of the globe. The computer game finals are screened in real- time in cinemas with a live audience. The gamers usually play in a darkened room for better screen visibility and atmosphere. Most of them have headphones over their ears, not only to hear the game sounds but also to communicate with each other via a microphone and the game dedicated audio channels. The gamers have unique nicknames and avatars which are used to identify them in the virtual game domains. This series of photos portray gamers in their epic moments of concentration during the game.
