The makeshift market does business twice a week on Sunday and Wednesday by the side of the city of Kolkata’s busy roads. Traders arrive from far flung places on the previous night and trade starts at midnight, finishing the next day ataround noon. The whole place fills up with buyers and sellers engaged in trading. All sorts of clothes and hosiery goods along with winter garments are put on sale. Even affluent locals are seen buying from this roadside market as they can find items that would normally be priced at a premium in a showroom, on sale for far less. Naturally it is a favourite destination for big showroom owners also.I spent a day at the market trying to chronicle the hectic activities of people engaged in serious trading.
