Sakura or cherry blossom is intimately identified with japanese culture. for centuries it has been an enduring metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life and symbolizes transience and nobleness. In Japan – Fleeting Encounters Stefan Boness captures the fleeting spirit of japanese spring and creates a melancholic portrait of a modern country with deeply engrained attachment to ancient rituals.
