The Other Side of the Brick series of photographs depicts the interiors of flats in working class housing estates in Upper Silesia, Poland, as well as their residents. In addition to portraying the people at the time of an industrial transformation, the pictures also show the interiors of the apartments, their decorations, the owners’ interests, tastes, and fashion in the industrial communities of Silesia in the first decade of the 21st century. I worked on the series in the period between the beginning of 2010 and the end of 2016. During the period, I produced a series of 300 photographs of apartments in 12 cities of the industrial regions of the Upper Silesia and Zagłębie. The residential districts where I photographed had been built around steelworks or mines for their workers. Now, most of the industrial plants have been shut down as a result of reforms. I took the pictures in the following cities: Zabrze, Siemianowice, Chorzów, Świętochłowice, Bytom, Czerwionka Leszczyny, Katowice, Ruda Śląska, Mysłowice, Sosnowiec, Będzin, Pszczyna.
