Chris Rainier is a National Geographic Society Fellow and documentary photographer -
who specializes in the documentation of endangered Cultures and traditional
languages around the globe. In 2002 he was awarded the Lowell Thomas Award by
the Explorers Club for his efforts on cultural preservation, and in 2014 he was elected a
Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society of London-specializing in cultural preservation.
He is currently the Director of the Cultural Sanctuaries Foundation – a global program
working with National geographic to help preserve Biodiversity and Culture.

Apratim started photography at the age of twelve, inspired by his father. Traveling the
world as a photographer for National Geographic Magazine was his dream from
childhood. He says that capturing images that people enjoy to look at and are
impressed with has not only inspired him to take up photography seriously but to give
people a reason to care was the main intension for him.Being the senior executive of
a pharmaceutical company in Kolkata, he finds very little time to enjoy his dream of
photojournalism which is now enriched with more than 20 years of experience in this
field of art. This has however not stopped his works from being published in many
magazines, newspapers and websites including online publications of various
humanitarian, educational religious organizations.Recently Apratim became a member
of National Geographic Stock Photography and Getty Images.
Susan Burnstine

Susan Burnstine’s Absence of Being is a subtly indelible photographic exploration of
the philosophical yet emotive belief that although we exist in the perpetual present, the
traces of the past persist in the here-andnow, however much they seem to be effaced.
Burnstine is one of the few photographers today avidly pursuing alternative processes
to create an idiosyncratic and deeply personal visual landscape. As a child, she
suffered vivid nightmares that stayed with her for days. When awake, these powerful
dreams would induce a liminal state that opened up an exploration of the sublevels of
her mind, wherein she discovered a curious synthesis of magic and reality. She found
in these portals to the unknown states of mind that bridged the gap between real and
unreal, and even symbolic intimations of life and death. Though the intensity of her
dreams did not lessen as an adult, her response transformed. “Initially,” she says, “I
was lost within the haze of my dreams. But now, it is through my dreams that I truly
see.”

Jeffrey A. Wolin is Ruth N. Halls Professor of Photography at Indiana University and
Director of the Center for Integrative Photographic Studies. Wolin has published 6
monographs including Written in Memory: Portraits of the Holocaust, Inconvenient
Stories: Vietnam War Veterans, and Stone Country.
His work has been shown at the Art Institute of Chicago, International Center of
Photography in New York, Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Modern Art,
Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among others. His photographs are in the
permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Los Angeles
County Museum of Art; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Houston Museum of
Fine Arts; Art Institute of Chicago; Cleveland Museum of Art; New York Public Library;

Norma I Quintana

Norma I. Quintana (born in Cleveland, Ohio, 1954) is an American photographer and
educator working in the tradition of social documentary. She photographs with film,
primarily in black and white using available light. Quintana has studied under Mary
Ellen Mark, Graciela Iturbide and Shelby Lee Adams. She has lectured nationally at
major universities, including art residencies at Penn State and American University
Washington D.C. She is a founding member of the Bay Area non-profit, PhotoAlliance.
Quintana's most recent project, Circus: A Traveling Life has been published by
Damiani Editore, Bologna, Italy and distributed by D.A.P. Artbook Catalog October
2014. It is her first art book.

Salvo Galano

Salvo Galano is a portrait photographer working in editorial and advertising.
He began to study photography at the age of fourteen, and from then on it became his
passion and profession.
After graduating in advertising he received his Master’s degree in photography in
Milan, after which he moved to London to work.
From 1995 to 2001 Galano lived in New York and worked as a reporter and
correspondent for various Italian and international magazines.
During that time his passion for portraits inspired him to travel to collect stories and
emotions of individuals he met in the United States, Latin America and the tribes of the
Amazon Rainforest, Chiapas and South-East Asia.
Based on his rainforest tribe project in 1998 the Guggenheim Memorial Foundation of
New York awarded him with a Fellowship in Photography.
This enabled him to shoot, produce and publish his book Sidewalk Stories.
Salvo Galano's work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in Italy, the USA,
the Netherlands, Serbia, Spain and France. He has also realized two underwater
exhibitions;
Valdir Cruz

Valdir Cruz was born in Guarapuava, in the Southern State of Paraná, Brasil in 1954.
Although Cruz has lived in the United States for more than thirty years, much of his
work in photography has focused on the people and landscape of Brazil. He was
awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1996 for Faces of the Rainforest, a project
documenting the life of indigenous people in the Brazilian rainforest, during the years
of 1995-2000.
Cruz is represented in the permanent collections of the Museu de Arte de São Paulo
(MASP), The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City, the Museum of Fine
Ulrike Crespo

Ulrike Crespo (born in 1950 in Fulda) After completing high school in Darmstadt, in
the 1970s Ulrike Crespo studied French, Art History and Archaeology in Lausanne and
Geneva, Switzerland. After returning to Germany in the 1980s, she studied Psychology
in Frankfurt/ Main and gained a licence to practice as a psychotherapist. Since the
1990s she has closely concerned herself with photography. Ulrike Crespo lives and
works in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, Vienna, Austria, and West Cork, Ireland.

Michael Hughes

Stylistically Michael is drawn towards fine art and social documentary photography.
The photographic image has strong historical and cultural associations with loss and
memory, and his work embraces these themes quite naturally as both story-teller and
image-maker.
Michael has spent his working life in the visual arts and design industry. He has an
MA in Photography from the University of Brighton and also owns and runs the design
agency Wild Dog Design, based in Brighton, England.
Andrew Tonn

Andrew J. Tonn is a documentary photographer, writer, and explorer based out of
Washington, D.C. He currently lives and works in Mumbai, India with his wife and
two sons.
After working for newspapers as a staff-writer and photographer, Tonn has spent years
working on documentary projects in Central America, Eastern Europe, and South Asia,
often partnering with humanitarian and medical relief organizations. His work focuses
on people and the environments in which they live, migration, and borderlands both
existential and metaphysical.
His work has been shown in numerous exhibitions, featured on ABC News and
published by National Public Radio, Human Nature, Black and White Magazine, Wired
Online Magazine, Minority Rights International, National Geographic Press, and many
other publications.
Tonn is currently working on projects concerning the Ganges River, the U.S./Mexico
Border, and issues of migration, public health, and human trafficking.
Stuart Freedman

Stuart Freedman is a photographer and writer based between London and New Delhi.
A member of Panos Pictures he has, over the last two decades, covered stories from
Albania to Zambia. His work has appeared in, amongst others, Life, Geo, Time, The
Sunday Times magazine, Der Spiegel, Condé Nast Traveller and Smithsonian. He has
been exhibited widely and his work has received recognition from Amnesty
International, POYi, World Sports Photo, The AOP, The RPS, UNICEF and the World
Press Masterclass.
Dave Jordano

Dave Jordano was born in 1948 in Detroit, Michigan. He received his BFA in
photography from the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit in 1974. In 1977 he
established a highly successful commercial photography studio in Chicago, shooting
major advertising campaigns for companies such as Crate & Barrel, Starbucks, Sears,
Nestle, Kraft Foods, General Mills, Nintendo, and Kellogg’s.
As mid-career fine art photographer, Jordano has received numerous accolades and
awards. He first received an honorable mention in the Houston Center for
Photography’s Long Term Fellowship Project in 2003, and then received the Curator’s
Choice Award the following year. He is a four-time top 20 finalist in the Photolucida's
“Critical Mass” national photography competition in Portland, OR as well as a two time
finalist in the LenCulture International Photography Awards. In 2015 he was awarded
the Peter Urban Legacy and Best of Show Award from the Griffin Museum of
Photography's annual competition, became a finalist in the triennial Outwin-Boochever
Portrait Competition from the Nation Portrait Gallery, Washington DC, and received the
prestigious $50,000 AIMIA-AGO Photography Prize in Canada. Jordano has exhibited

Francesco Mastalia has traveled the world photographing tribal, religious, spiritual,
and indigenous people. His book Dreads, published by Workman Artisan, is a photo
documentary on the history of dreadlocks. Now in its eighth printing, it includes an
introduction by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker.
His second book Organic: Farmers & Chefs of the Hudson Valley, published by
powerHouse Books, is a documentary of the Hudson Valley’s organic sustainable food
movement. The portraits of the farmers and chefs were photographed using the wet
plate collodion process, a photographic technique developed in the 1850’s. Works from
Organic are included in the Permanent Collection of the Library of Congress.
The forthcoming book, Yoga: The Secret of Life, is a collection of photographs and text
that explores the personal experiences of 108 of today’s leading yoga practitioners
and how this ancient practice has transformed their mind, body, and spirit. The book is
scheduled for release in the fall of 2017.
Peter Zelewski

Peter Zelewski is a London based portrait and documentary photographer. Born in
Detroit, USA, he moved to London in the 1980s and studied at the London College of
Communication (LCC). Through his fascination of people and love of the city, he was
drawn to the streets of London to take photographs of its citizens which has resulted in
two award-winning projects ’People of Soho’ and ‘Beautiful Strangers’. His work has
been featured in The Guardian, The Huffington Post, The Evening Standard, Huck,
Time Out, Stylist, Vogue Living and We Heart. In 2015 he was awarded third prize in
the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery in
London. His first book ‘People of London’ has just been published by Hoxton Mini
Press.
Steve Evans

Steve Evans is a cultural researcher, photojournalist, and social documentary
photographer and travels the globe extensively. He is affiliated with the International
Center for Ethnographic Studies - Atlanta, USA. Steve’s work has been featured in
exhibits in Nicosia-Cyprus, Brasilia-Brazil, Johannesburg-South Africa, and Dhahran-
Saudi Arabia. In addition, his photos have been used in hundreds of print and online
publications of various non-profits, humanitarian, educational, and religious
organizations. Steve’s work has taken him to over 90 countries.
Rainier's photography and books have been widely shown and collected by museums around the world, including the
Australian Museum in Sydney, the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, the International Center of Photography in New York, the
George Eastman House International Museum in Rochester, New York, The National Geographic Society, and the UN.
Chris Steele-Perkins

British, b. Burma 1947 Chris Steele-Perkins moved to England with his father at the
age of two. He went to school at Christ's Hospital. At the University of Newcastle-upon-
Tyne, he studied psychology and worked for the student newspaper, graduating with
honors in 1970 when he started working as a freelance photographer, moving to London
in 1971. Apart from a trip to Bangladesh in 1973 he worked mainly in Britain in areas
concerned with urban poverty and also sub-cultures. In 1975 he worked with EXIT, a
collective dealing with social problems in British cities. This work culminated in the book
Survival Programmes in 1982. He joined the Paris-based Viva agency in 1976. In
1979, he published his first solo book, The Teds. He also edited, and purchased the
images for, The Arts Council of GB’s book, About 70 Photographs.
Steele-Perkins joined Magnum in 1979 and soon began working extensively in the
developing world, in particular Africa, central America and Lebanon, as well as
continuing to document Britain. He published, The Pleasure Principle, a work exploring
Britain in the 80s. In 1992 he published Afghanistan, the result of four trips over four
years. After marrying his second wife, Miyako Yamada, he embarked on a long term photographic exploration of Japan
publishing his first book of that work, Fuji, in 2000. A highly personal diary of 2001, Echoes, was published in 2003, and the
second of his Japanese books, Tokyo Love Hello, was published in February 2007. In contrast a black and white study of
English rural life, Northern Exposures, was published in summer 2007. He published a 40 year perspective on England,
England, my England, at the end of 2009. A study of British centenarians Fading Light was published in 2012.
Damian Bird

Damian Bird, is a photographer and photojournalist with many years of experience,
working in war zones and trouble spots around the globe. He was educated in
Photography at the Surrey College of Art and Design and at the London College of
Communication where he studied for a post graduate degree in Photojournalism.
In 2011 he founded Life Force magazine with his business partner and wife of 14 years,
Alice. As well as Editing Life Force magazine, he is currently engaged in photographing
a series of photo-essays on English culture and has recently returned to Afghanistan.
He continues to have his work published in national and international newspapers and
magazines including The Times, the Telegraph, the Express, the Observer, GQ, Esquire,
Dazed & Confused,The Face, Country Life and Geographical magazine.
He lives with his wife and four children in Devon, England.

His current book titled, “Detroit: Unbroken Down” was published in September of 2015 by PowerHouse Books and has won

Ricky Adam was born in Bangor, Northern Ireland in 1974.
Ricky has been involved in the D.I.Y. punk community for many years & has been Co.
Editor/Photographer for 'DIG BMX' magazine for over 20 years.
He has spent ‘X’ amount of years playing in bands & traveling all over the world taking
photographs.
His work has been featured in many worldwide publications/record labels, some of which include: DIG BMX magazine, The
Independent, Juxtapoz, Obey, Maximum Rock N’Roll, British Journal of Photography, Upper Playground, Hamburger Eyes,
Dischord Records, Burning Heart Records.

Susan sought to find a way to portray her dream-like visions entirely in-camera, rather than with post-processing digital
manipulations. To achieve this, she has created twenty-three handmade film cameras and lenses that are frequently
unpredictable and technically challenging. The cameras are primarily made out of plastic, vintage camera parts, and
random household objects, with single-element lenses molded from plastic and rubber. Learning to overcome their
extensive optical limitations required Burnstine to rely on instinct and intuition—the same tools that are key when
attempting to interpret dreams.
Susan’s initial body of work, Within Shadows, resolved in 2009 and resulted in her first multi-award winning monograph of
the same name (Charta, 2011). Her second body of work, Absence of Being, was published by Damiani Editore in Fall
2016 and has earned much critical praise.
Susan is an award winning fine art and commercial photographer originally from Chicago now based in Los Angeles. She
is represented in galleries across the world, widely published throughout the globe, conducts workshops internationally,
has had over 25 international solo exhibits and has also written for several photography magazines, including a monthly
column entitled American Connection for Black and White Photography Magazine (UK).
