Volcano Bromo . Volcano Bromo Sitting on a power keg by Ivan Tykhy This is about the people that live too close to Volcano Bromo. Bromo is an active volcano and part of the Tengger massif, in East Java, Indonesia.  According to legend, the Tengger people are the direct descendants of the Majapahit Empire and have lived here since the 15th century.  People here get used to adjusting their lives to the constant threat of eruption. It's like sitting on a powder keg, breathing ashes which taste like blood; so salty and ferociously ferriferous. The last eruption was on 23 January 2011. But Mount Bromo is believed to be a holy mountain, so few of these people would agree to leave their homes if the giant woke up.  View of Volcano Bromo. April 2011. Indonesia.
