Damian Bird

Damian Bird (born London, 1972) is a photographer, photojournalist and lecturer
with many years of experience, working in war zones and trouble spots around the
globe.
He was educated in Photography at the Surrey College of Art and Design and at the
London College of Communication where he studied for a post graduate degree in
Photojournalism.
In 2011 he founded Life Force magazine with his business partner and wife of 16
years, Alice. As well as Editing Life Force magazine, he is currently engaged in
photographing a series of photo-essays on English culture and has recently returned
to Afghanistan.His first book Seabird was released in November 2017.
Shirley Baker
Shirley Baker (1932-2014) was a British documentary and street photographer. She
grew up in Manchester and had an extensive career in photography, exhibiting in
galleries across Europe. Her archive is now stored at Mary Evans Picture Library in
London.
George Rodger
Born in Cheshire, George Rodger served in the British Merchant Navy. After a short
spell in America, he worked as a photographer for the BBC's The Listener magazine,
followed in 1938 by a brief stint working for the Black Star Agency.
His pictures of the London blitz brought him to the attention of Life magazine, and he
became a war correspondent. He won eighteen campaign medals covering Free
French activities in West Africa, and went on to document the war front in Eritrea,
Abyssinia and the Western Desert. He travelled to Iran, Burma, North Africa, Sicily
and Salerno, Italy, where he met and befriended Robert Capa.
Having covered the liberation of France, Belgium and Holland, Rodger was the first
photographer to enter Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in April 1945. In May he
photographed the German surrender at Lüneburg for Time and Life. Traumatized by
the experience of looking for 'nice compositions' in front of the dead, Rodger

Norman Seeff was born March 5, 1939, in Johannesburg, South Africa. Since
moving to the United States in 1969, his work as a photographer and filmmaker has
been focused on the exploration of human creativity and the inner dynamics of the
creative process.
John Rendall & Derek Cattani
Australian-born John Rendall first came to London in the late 1960s and it was there
that he first came across Christian, at that time a young cub lying in a cage in
Harrods department store. John is trustee of the George Adamson Foundation.
Christian's 'legacy' is the continued interest in his unique life.

Hayahisa Tomiyasu 1982 born in Kanagawa, Japan.
2002-2006 Studies in Photography at the Tokyo Polytechnic University, Tokyo.
2008-2016 Studies in Photography at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig under
Prof. Peter Piller (Dipl. & MA).
Lives and works in Leipzig and Zurich.
He continues to have his work published in national and international newspapers and magazines including The Times,
the Telegraph, the Express, the Observer, GQ, Esquire, Daily Mail, Dazed & Confused,The Face, Country Life, Coast and
Geographical magazine. He lives in Devon, England with his wife, four children and his dachshunds, Jessie and Wilhelmina.
Bertien Van Manen

Bertien van Manen started her career as a fashion photographer, after having
studied French and German languages and litterature. Inspired by Robert Frank’s
“The Americans” she travelled to Budapest and New York, photographing what she
saw. She had her first exhibition in the Photographers Gallery in London in 1977 of
images she made in Budapest.
Bertien van Manen has worked on projects like “a Hundred Summers a Hundred
Winters”, photographs taken in the ex-Soviet Union. This project won several prizes.
“East Wind West Wind” made in China. “Give me your Image” photographed in
Europe, published bySteidl and shown in “New Photography” at MoMA in 2005.
In October 2011 “Let’s sit down before we go” came out with MACK London. “Easter
and Oak Trees”, 2012 published by MACK London shows intimate, black and white images of van Manens family in the
Seventies. In April 2014 van Manens album “Moonshine” was published by MACK. It contains photographs taken over the
years in the Appalachian Mountains.Bertiens project "Beyond Maps and Atlases" of photo's made in Ireland has been
published by Mack in 2016. In 2017, ‘’I Will Be Wolf ‘’was published by MACK, edited by Stephen Gill.All these projects have
been widely exhibited over the world. Van Manen lives in Amsterdam.
Derek Cattani is an international award-winning photographer; whose career spans
some four decades on assignment for many top magazines and Fleet Street
newspapers. The highlight of his early career was meeting and photographing Christian and going with him and his owners
to Africa.
embarked on a 28,000-mile journey all over Africa and the Middle East, focusing on animal life, rituals, and ways of life that
exist in a close relationship with nature.
In 1947 Rodger was invited to join Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, David Seymour and William Vandivert in founding
Magnum. His next major trip was a Cape-to-Cairo trans-Africa journey, during which he made extraordinary pictures of
the Kordofan Nuba tribe which first appeared in National Geographic in 1951. Africa remained a preoccupation for him
for over thirty years.
Enormously successful during his lifetime, George Rodger died in Kent on 24 July 1995.

Harvey Stein

HARVEY STEIN is a professional photographer, teacher, lecturer, author and curator
based in New York City. He currently teaches at the International Center of
Photography. Stein is a frequent lecturer on photography both in the United States
and abroad. He is the Director of Photography at Umbrella Arts Gallery, located in
the East Village of Manhattan. He has also been a member of the faculty of the
School of Visual Arts, New School University, Drew University, Rochester Institute of
Technology and the University of Bridgeport. A recipient of a Creative Arts Public
Service (CAPS) fellowship and numerous artist in residency grants, Stein’s eighth
and latest book, Mexico Between Life and Death, will be published this September
by Kehrer. Other books of Stein’s photographs are Parallels: A Look at Twins, E.P.

Stein’s photographs have been widely exhibited in the United States and Europe—84 one-person and over 165 group

including the George Eastman House, Bibliotheque Nationale, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Fine Arts,
Houston, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the International Center of Photography, the
Denver Museum of Art, the Carnegie Museum of Art (Pittsburgh), the Portland (Oregon) Museum of Art, the Museum of
the City of New York, Museet for Fotokunst (Odense, Denmark), Musee De La Photographie (Charleroi, Belguim), the

Mark Steinmetz

Mark Steinmetz is based in Athens, Georgia, his work has appeared in exhibitions at
the MoMA New York, The Art Institute of Chicago and The High Meuseum of Atlanta.
The images in Past K-Ville were made while Steinmetz received support from a
Guggenheim Fellowship.
