Henri Cartier-Bresson was one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century, turning photojournalism into an art form. Using the freedom and mobility of the handheld camera, he made icons both from everyday life and historic events. Cartier-Bresson travelled the world, and as a photojournalist he was assigned to India and China, witnessing historic events including Gandhi’s last days and the Communist victory in China. His reporting earned him global recognition and in 1947, he formed the international photographic cooperative, Magnum Photos with Robert Capa, David Seymour and George Rodger. His photographs were published in Life and other journals, and in books, most importantly Images à la sauvette 1952. Henri Matisse drew the artwork for the cover, and in his preface, Cartier-Bresson describes his photographic style. The title of the English edition, The Decisive Moment, describes Cartier-Bresson’s instinctive recognition of the exact moment to take the definitive photograph. The Fine Art Society presents 50 photographic masterpieces by Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004).  The exhibition is staged in collaboration with Peter Fetterman Gallery in Santa Monica. The exceptional signed prints in the show include many of Cartier-Bresson’s most famous works.
