In 1990 Bill Henson was commissioned by the Paris Opera to produce a new series of works that literalised the effect of listening to music, and found a formal expression for emotions generated by music. Over the course of a year, Henson traveled to the three great Opera houses of Paris. On returning to his Melbourne studio, he recreated moments of beauty and tenderness witnessed during performances.
