The Blood / Kainai Reserve of southern Alberta is the largest First Nations
reserve in Canada. Established in 1880, the arrow tip of land is wedged
between three rivers, the Belly, the Old Man and the St. Mary’s. It’s a land
of hard facts and sweeping beauty…prairie vistas brought up short by the
startling verticality of the Rocky Mountains just to the west.
Crossing onto the reserve is crossing from one country into another, from
the country of the dog into to the country of the wolf.
