I had read the book Horse Soldiers some time ago and was fascinated by the whole event. I had no idea that this
happened right after 911. I had lost count of the number of people in the film world that I had raved on to about this
book……just had to be a movie somewhere down the line. So I was, to say the least, overjoyed to get a call from Jerry
Bruckheimer’s office asking me to cover this shoot.
I have done numerous War epic movies including Saving Private Ryan, A Band of Brothers, Pacific and Unbroken. I always
research the work of epic war photojournalists before starting on these projects. No, I have never been to a war zone,
though I was born in Birmingham England during WW2, but I’m pretty sure that doesn’t count. I like shooting wars when
the wounded and fallen get up and have lunch with the crew.
